Flexi Care Complex is a state-of-the-art complex high dependency nursing home located on the outskirts of Coventry bordering Bedworth. Surrounded by quiet and affluent private residential homes but bathed in abundant sunlight, the nursing home facility is entirely powered by solar energy.
The visionary director of Flexi Care Complex is a passionate advocate for sustainable living and complex care Mr Felix F Marufu. Together with the Registered Manager Loreen they researched the viability of solar-powered facilities and their long term benefits to the community given the availability of the electric car chargers available for staff and visiting families. ‘As energy costs rise and sustainability becomes ever more critical, it was important we come with a plan that can significantly enhance our care home’s profitability and environmental impact.’ He explained. Loreen and Felix, after years of research and planning, opened Flexi Care Complex Nursing Home in 2021, the regional first and only complex nursing home accepting high dependency complex residents in their one of the only solar-powered nursing homes.
The facility boasts 52 large cutting-edge solar panels supported by battery storage systems, and energy-efficient designs, ensuring that all its energy needs are met sustainably.
All bedrooms are fitted with from the future red sockets. These sockets will forever have supply of power. In the event of power failure, the solar power will only prioritise these red sockets and should solar power becomes weaker, the generator takes over until day light when the solar power comes back to effect. This means any life supporting equipment plugged on these sockets will not be affected by any power failures. The complex nursing home’s well trained and competent staff, quickly develops close relationships with the residents. Their empathy and dedication highlight the human side of the nursing home, making it more than just a technological marvel. It is the strongest belief of Jake the company director of Prolectrico which installed the state of the art Solar system that should a storm or some natural disaster strike Flexi Care Complex will remain fully operational due to its solar energy reserves and battery backups as well as diesel operated generator attached to the system. The facility could even provide shelter and aid to local residents affected by the blackout and having life saving equipment reliant on power. The bedrooms have ceiling panel lights that resembles looking into the bright blue sky or lying under colourful trees in autumn.
This facility is not just a complex nursing home valued for its high dependency residents but as a beacon of sustainability and resilience. Trish from BBC West Midlands and radio was impressed with the innovative model Flexi Care Complex represents in the modern energy preservation era.
Flexi Care Complex is a model for future nursing homes worldwide ensuring a greener future for home care. The whole Flexi team looks on proudly, knowing they played a part in a groundbreaking achievement.
